Swiftech MCP655 - variable or fixed speed?

I read somewhere that MCP655's have a tendancy to burn out on high voltage / speed. That's understandable.

After this latest fiasco, I'd much rather have a reliable pump than one that's going to push things out as quick as possible, and burn itself out in the process. I think the 655 will be best for my new configuration (finally moving into REAL water cooling...), but there are two versions: a variable, and a fixed.

The fixed seems to be cheaper than the variable. The question is, what speed is it fixed to? Does it run at maximum speed at all times, too slow, or somewhere in the middle?

Overall, is it worth it to get the variable speed, or will I bet just as well off with the fixed? Again, I'd prefer reliability, and I'll sacrifice a little performance for it if I have to.

Thanks.

I have the fixed one. I believe the fixed one runs at 12v DC, while the variable can be adjusted to either 8v or 12v DC for lower noise (not entirely sure about the lower value). At 12V I cant hear the pump over the noise that my radiator fans make.
