Swiftech MC370 Mounting Question

The Swiftech mounting instructions state that I should put a square piece of neoprene inside the cavity of the CPU, affixed with Silicone. Is this really necessary? The reason I ask is because I ordered 2 of these heatsinks and they just arrived. Of course there was no neoprene square included...can I get away without doing this? They also state that I should put one on the underside of the motherboard also. And what about the dielectric grease in the pin array under the CPU?

Complete instructions with pictures:

I can surely get some dielectric grease if necessary...anyone here with a Swiftech MC 370 use the method in their instructions?

Thanks for any help...awaiting a reply before I get to installing this A7A266/Athlon.

Yes actually...I believe I totally skipped the part in their instructions regarding "if you have a MC370-0A skip to step 3". I was trying to save a bit of money when I bought this particular heatsink...I am not going to overclock the box much so I figured it would give stellar cooling for about 2/3 the price of the MC-462...otherwise I would have bit the bullet. Do you think it was a wise choice getting this particular one? It has gotten good reviews, and I could not see myself buying a poorly lapped ThermoEngine. =)

I certainly hope it's a good buy... Mine's being delivered later in the week! ^_^

I'd considered the Thermoengine, but word is the actual models for sale pale in comparison to the units reviewers were given (that liquid core is missing in the production models, I believe). So it seems like, short of the $90 Noisecontrol Silverado and the 462, this is one of the better units out there.

I picked the 370 over the 462 because of the mounting - the 370 seems to have one of the better mounting systems out there, where the 462 looks to be a huge pain. If I want better cooling down the road, I'll go water. Or maybe I'll hit the lottery and buy one of those VapoChill cases... Wish me luck!

I am using it with a delta 38 fan on it. I had a few small problems with it at first namely 2 bent pins that were obstructing the movement of one of the clips creating an uneven pressure on the die surface once i corrected that it worked much better. I also discovered that the spring pressure was still uneven but was able to correct that with a very tiny adjustment on one of the spring screws. found it cools my tbird at 1470 about 8c cooler than my volcano heatsink did with the delta mounted on it.
