Investigators on Thursday apprehended a woman they say had sweet teeth and sticky fingers.
Investigators say Teresa Marie Canady stole people?s identities and used their bank accounts to buy gourmet candies over the Internet.
The last time, she spent more than $680 at the Swiss Colony Inc., a catalog food store based in Madison, Wisc., according to court documents.
Investigators dubbed her ?The Sweet Tooth Bandit? and followed the virtual trail of sweets from Wisconsin to North Carolina.
They arrested Canady on Thursday at her home in Hope Mills and charged her with identity theft and obtaining property by false pretenses. According to court documents, investigators believe she committed similar crimes in Virginia.
Debbie Tanna, spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff?s Office, said she was not sure when the identity thefts started.
Canady has only been charged with stealing one person?s identity, but Tanna said investigators think she used at least six people?s identities to make online candy purchases.
Tanna said Canady goes by at least four other names, including Teresa Reid, Teresa Whetzell, Teresa Peters and Teresa Demoulin.
Canady, 38, of the 2500 block of Chickenfoot Road, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bail.
