I believe you also need to purchase $100 worth to get the Attache case for free, so unless you're buying several of those memorex drives, this won't work.

If you click the rebate coupon you would be able to read this:

I got the attache with the deal as shown.

Try it before you knock it. I did my homework.

Also, at least one other perosn has already emailed me with a succes story. So it works.

Seems the deal is dead, or the bug fixed, or whatever. I just tried it, and it is telling me that the order isn't for enough $$$ to get the case. Still a good deal, free CD-ROM. I bought one from the BM Sunday (for free) and fired it up, it is LOUD, so if you are looking for something quiet, look elsewhere. If you are looking for something free, it works!

The free attache case deal is only for new customers, at least thats what one of the CSRs told me. You can find the code for it over in the fatwallet hd forum.

I had to call and speak to a CSR, who added the $20.00 after the order processed..so my total was $34.41..after the 30.00 rebate my grand total is 4.41. Thanks for the great deal.

The attache case is featured on their latest catalog on the front and back page. It is for orders that are over $25.00. This is well published and the Moderators should have no problem with my posting the attache's item #440988-37 and the coupon is [code deleted]. It states that it is for first delivery customers, but they are out of stock, and since this is going to be popular for free, I wouldn't hold my breath about getting one, although the deal is good until 5-15.

Read the fine print.
""Rebate applies to Memorex CD-ROM 48X Drive (SKU 381913) purchased at Staples stores only. Purchase must be made between "January 11, 2001 and January 20, 2001". Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions.""

Dead Deal as of now. Good luck getting your rebate to any that bought it on-line, used a $$ off coupon, or used the Attache case offer with this. Staples is a prick about rebates, and WILL void it if they find the slightest reason too. Voided 2 on me, and there was nothing I could do, since it was clearly stated in the fine print.

For the last comment about "at Staples stores", all of their rebates say this and they honor them. They really have to because the phrase is ambiguous. It could mean, "must be at our brick and mortar stores", or it could mean "from Staples, not anyone else". Well, thanks to the law, the latter interpretation is the only one that will fly, especially when you consider that the rebate coupon appears right on-line. To argue otherwise would mean Staples would have to argue that those coupons that they clearly put on their web pages which clearly lead everyone to believe that they apply to on-line purchases, are in fact only for BM stores... No way my friends. They would never try to argue this point, because its a sure loser and could land people in jail for fraud. Staples is putting their rebates on-line for the express reason of customers using them for on-line purchases, not some ill-conceived conspiracy.

Now the other point about combination of offers, that one gives Staples far more wiggle room. If they really wanted to fight you on that point, they would at least have a decent argument. However, I think that many of these rebates are in fact Manufacturers' rebates and if so Staples will get paid in full for them, so you should too. It doesn't matter how much you paid Staples, the money is eventually coming from the Manufacturer.
