Sweet spot for Duron + GF2MX?

ugh

Platinum Member
Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a Duron system and I currently have a GF2MX. Is there a sweet spot for the Duron to power the GF2MX?

BTW, I'm not planning to OC it.. YET.

Thanks.

I think with most 3d games the GF2MX would be the bottleneck with a 600MHz CPU and higher. There isn't any real sweet spot. A faster CPU will provide better peformance at lower resolutions, but when you start to raise the resolution the MX doesn't have the fill rate to keep up. With that in mind, i suggest getting a Duron 900 or 950 so you don't have to upgrade the CPU again for awhile.

Dang, in that case I don't think I'll see a huge increase in FPS since I already have a P3 550; which has lots of probs. Umm.. Thanks for the advice. BTW, how much can I OC the 800-900 Durons to anyway?

you should be able to reach 1Ghz or higher, but probably not too much higher. I have a 750 and a GF2MX, it's no 3D dream machine but I am no big 3D gamer. And unless you are a gamer freak, then GF2MX is plenty, I think.

I guess any machine with a GF2MX is not a dream machine 😉 Heh... That aside, you oc-ed your rig?

Gotta also OC the GF2MX. It needs to have the memory oced a lot though, because thats where it's lackin the most.

Agreed. But I haven't tried ocing it. My GF2MX currently runs quite hot already. Wouldn't want to put more stress on the card till I get a fan.
