So my girlfriend and I have three fish tanks. Two are 10-gallon, and a new 55 gallon. In the 55 gallon tank we were given a bunch of cichlids that were previously together in a slightly smaller tank. Four Firemouths, and three Convits. The Convits had a few batches of babies, but this latest batch turned them into mean bastards! They killed one firemouth by ripping its tail fin off and beating it to death. They nearly killed a second one, he is pretty beat up. The other fish were also taking a beating, but not quite as bad. Because of that I was forced to move fish around to other tanks temporarily before they were killed.

So yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of plexiglass so I could cut my own divider. I put 1/8" holes in it for water flow. I put it in the tank with the two mating convicts and their babies on their side, then moved the firemouths and third convict into the other.

This is where the revenge comes in.

Very quickly the stupid babies started swimming through the holes to the other side! Well, the firemouths and third convict were nervous for a while. Knowing the mating pair were very close and ready to attack. It took about 20 minutes, then they attacked! High protein meal for everyone! They ate all the babies that came through, which was most of them. The mating pair were so pissed, trying to get through the divider. hehe, I didn't feel bad at all after they brutally killed one fish and would have easily killed the others as well. hehehe....

Then the third convict just went up to the edge of the divider with the mating pair on the other side. They have been facing off at eachother for a while now, ready to fight it out. Glad they haven't figured out how to jump over the top of the divider yet. There is a gap there, about 1/2" for surface water to flow thorough. Could turn out bad if they do.

anyway, felt like sharing my story here. Hope some of you are entertained.

no worries, nowhere to put 50 to 100 little fish. No room for them either if they actually got bigger.

oh, forgot to mention, there was also another little convict that survived to be about 1" long. The mating pair killed that one too. Only after blinding him in one eye! The bastards!

Thats an amazing story. I had some fish once and they enjoyed trying to kill each other but there was a fish that was MUCH bigger then the others and it was a peace loving fish. So they lived.
