Also, for Thanksgiving two years ago I was studying abroad in China and managed to make a sweet potato casserole using sweet potatoes bought from a street vendor. Got like half a dozen of them, mashed them together with butter and brown sugar from the local supermarket, and made a topping out of butter and brown sugar with pecans set in it.
Pretty simple recipe with few ingredients, but the results were GODLY. I was amazed at what I was able to make in a country where many standard grocery items aren't available.
Shit, thats pretty much the same recipe we make every thanksgiving here in the states. It doesn't have to be complicated to be good. Its pretty much my favorite dish at thanksgiving. I call it the pre-dessert. I tend to have it just after the main course/sides and before pie. God I love thanksgiving.
