Why did they drop the W-8?

Oh and I like the look of the new cars.

If VW improves their quality/reliability up to Toyota/Honda standards I'll be the first in line to get a Passat.

The lines along the doors/trunk (looking from the front) are VERY audi-esque...

I like it :)

niiiice.....shiet that looks nice....

wagon looks pretty decent too....i always viewed wagons as POS's no matt who made 'em..they just never appealed to me...but that wagon looks alright.....shoulda went to a more toyota matrix-ish look...except longer...and call it a wagon..

i also thought the licence plate had emoticons...aha of course not for over a second..but that'll be cool...to be able to put emoticons on ur licence plates...hehe

Sweet! Looks like VW added a TDI Passat to the 2004 lineup as well....

"New 2.0L TDI ? 134 hp, 247 lb-ft of torque with advanced unit-injector technology available later in model year (preliminary figures; subject to change)"

front good, back needs to grow on me.

Any pics of the new golf/gti NFS4? I don't think my current job will afford me my g35 coupe. Thinking new golf w/ 2.0T as alt.

Very nice, although I thought the facelift was supposed to be on the 2004 and not on the 2005 model. The back needs work but I like the side and front, and I'm glad they dropped the W8 model. It was way too expensive and I didn't think the performance numbers were that great for the price, the V6 3.2L should do well. Highly doubt they will bring over the Passat R32 but that would be sweet.

Probably didn't sell very well. I read stories about oil changes costing over $100 when people did it themselves because they take like 8 quarts of synthetic motor oil. That alone would have made me skip the W8.

The other reason (as stated in the scan I posted) is that the current drivetrain on the Passat is North-South. The new Passat's drivetrain will be transverse and will not fit the W-8.

The other reason (as stated in the scan I posted) is that the current drivetrain on the Passat is North-South. The new Passat's drivetrain will be longitudinal and will not fit the W-8.

They are going transverse mounted (east west as they call it) typical of most FWD cars instead of the longitudinal mounted design that the current gen uses(north south).

Going longitudinal helps reduce torque steer. They'll have to do some suspension work arounds to make as neutral a handling a car as the current gens.

Is it me or half the new VW's I see at night have one or more lights not working? If they can't even put good bulbs in the lights, how am I supposed to trust them to design the rest of the car.

my friend had to take his passat in three times to change the coils with that fiasco, and recently the moonroof was stuck closing - he had to garage it b/c of the rain. and the car is a year old...boy is he pissed.

Wagon looks like a slammed Cayene from the back.

Saw a Cayene on the road 2 weeks ago, lix ballz IRL too. It's not a victim of the camera, it just looks plain odd.

Vi Edit, I get no Torque steer in my 4WD Golf.

It's stories like that and this which really give VW a black eye.
