Sweet my Uncle just gave me Linux 7.0 Professional!!!!

Any pointers, I am thinKing about installing this sucker on the old Gateway 350MHZ PII and seeing how it runs, man it comes with all kinds of stuff


I can't wait to play with it.

yeah it's suSE, it has all the books and a ton of apps on the disk, with some free oracle thing too.

I have mandrake on a CD but, never got around to installing it, I think I will install this though espically all those apps about 2000 of them hehe should occupy my day tommorrow.


Oh and I can't forget the free linux penguin PIN

SuSE 7.0 isn't bad, but it is a bit dated. It's still one of the preferred platforms to run Oracle 8i on. I'm been using SuSE Linux since v6.2.

The manuals are highly regarded, although I don't think they are that great. If I were you, I'd lean towards installing an up-to-date distro like SuSE 8.0 or Mandrake 8.2, but I like new software.

Sadly, they stopped shipping the pins & stickers in 8.0 retail box.

Anyway, the linux kernel is only at version 2.4.x, so you have Version 7.0 of Suse.

Go ahead and install, linux is a good OS.

Start getting Linux Format magazine. The regularly put full distros on the cover CD. If you subscribe to the DVD version you get even more distros. They also always have a bunch of other software with it.

You can't download ISOs for SuSE Linux. But you can install SuSE Linux Pro over FTP.

Nor can you download the highly regarded user manuals in any electronic format. SuSE has made (and sticks with) the decision to drive retail sales of their OS. Mandrake and Red Hat are happy with more freely-available widespread distribution.
