Sweet! Internet upgraded to 16mb/s!

Just got an email this morning from my cable company telling me that my Internet connection has been upgraded from 10mb/s to 16mb/s for the same price... 🙂

Speed, Price, etc.

What is everyone else running at these days? I remember how amazed I was when Sympatico offered 5mb/s "ultra" service... 16mb/s is crazy is it not?

Now - living in rural Canada, this might not be that big of deal... So what is the fastest available at your internet company just for comparison?

So you pay like 70/mth for that, plus 45 for cable? Shaw gives me the 10mb version with cable for only 70/mth 😛

No, when I moved in I called them and with some sweet talk I got them to throw in cable free for 12 months... 😀

16 Mbit is pretty sweet. We just got upgraded to 10 here... hopefully we get another upgrade or at least another option soon.

16 would be orgasmic......my 13 is already awesome

I am happy for you. It is always a pleasure when your internet speeds increase for free. I have been paying $41.95 a month for six years. Speeds started at 2000/384, then upgraded to 3000/384, then again to 5000/384, then again to 8000/384. Very reliable, and the price has never changed. Cable FTW.

that 16mb/s isn't so sweet when you look at the details and notice you are capped at 100GB (upload and download combined).
I'm going to assume that is monthly limits.

With that connection, I'm sure 100GB is easily exhausted in about two days! 🙂

Looks like I just got upgraded...
4955 / 698
At dslreports.

I use a mom-and-pop small ISP, and pay 88 a month for cable TV/cable internet/telephone service, all taxes in that price.

I don't think the speed is actually activated yet, since my download speeds are still around 600k/s down, but they say it's coming... probably sent the email, then they will perform the upgrade so people will see a difference.

Yes - the websites says it's capped... but it's not... A buddy of mine set his Torrents up when it was 10mb/s service to download constant movies and he was over 400gb down before they sent him an email... 🙂

I don't use that much anyway, but the speed will really be nice...

why is cable internet service so expensive? comcast is pretty much the only service available to me and they want 60 a month without cable for 6mb service. wtf!

Well, Cogeco Cable just upgraded from 10mbps to 16 for professional lines, and from 6 to 10mbps for residental lines. Pretty nice.

EDIT: LOL, realized that OP was talking about cogeco in the firstplace. I'm in the Cogeco call-center as we speak, troubleshooting idiots that shouldn't own a computer.

Funny thing is, back when I lived in Springfield, MO it was cheaper to get basic analog cable with a cable modem than to get a cable modem by itself. The difference was about $8/month.

*sigh* And I considered myself lucky when I connected at 31.2kb/s three times in a row on dialup. 🙁
Fricken Verizon - DSL "was available" before I bought this house, then "ooops, we meant it will be available in the near future." They told me "by May" but I forgot to ask which year.

My current connection is roughly four megabits down 384k up through Adelphia for $30 a month. Part of a package deal with our TV service. Hopefull when Time Warner finishes their take over my speeds/price won't get screwed up.

yeah, we should see more and more cable companies uping their speed and/or lowering their price.

competition for the win!!!

BigJ,

the showdown between cable and the telcos is going to be one heck of a battle - and the consumers are going to be the winners.
