SWEET! Horray for the court system!

So I got a ticket a few months ago for some BS, there is a thread about it if you care that much.

So I've been too lazy to take care of the ticket and each court date I would ask for a continuance.
Today I walk in expecting that this will be my last time to ask and I should plan to taking care of the ticket(I've continued the ticket 3 times)
After roll is called the D.A. calls me up:
D.A.:"Mr A. could you please step forward"
Me: crap, I'm gonna have to pay the fine
D.A.: Did you cause an accident with this?
Me: "No ma'am"
D.A.: "Your ticket is being dropped, have a nice day."
Me: 😀

Is this SOP for someone like me who asks for a bunch of continuances to get them out of the system or did I really luck out?

Getting continuances is the number one way to get a ticket dismissed.

How do you think most traffic lawyers get their clients out of them?

Awesome. Can someone please explain how a continuance works? Do you have to go to court to request it? And if you do, why not just take care of it then?

Normally, you have to file a written request for a continuance. It varies by state I believe, but sometimes you can either send it via mail, or you have to showup at a courthouse.

If you're already at the courthouse, and all parties are there, you will normally not be granted a continuance.

Why not just take care of it then? Most people are perfectly fine paying the fees associated with a traffic ticket, but don't want to deal with the points on their license and the insurance hikes associated with them.

I always assumed it was super special lawyer legal power.

Yea, it's called having no integrity or a soul 😉

It was a joke anywho. I actually have a good deal of respect for lawyers.

Don't hate the people in the system, hate the system. Which applies to both lawyers and police officers.

LOL, I thought this was going to be about the judge making the attorneys play "rock, paper, scissors" to see who wins. (on Slashdot)

My lawyer is a former DA, he knows all the prosecutors and judges in the state.
I've never paid a ticket since I got to know him. He's not a traffic lawyer, but he does my tickets!
