So I got my OC back!

Now I'm gonna screw it up, turns out Kitty's friend doesn't need my 2x1GB old sticks of RAM, so I'm gonna bump Xero up to 6GB and see if I can keep it stable there. Then I'll see about tightening timings, perhaps.

Sync mode with tightened timings > async mode with 800mhz and stock timings, correct?

Depends on the benchmark. I saw higher throughput and latency running async at a higher clock with loose timings. So if the benchmark is for throughput, higher clock wins. If the benchmark is for latency, the sync mode with better timings wins. Mix in higher FSB at a lower multiplier as another variable and you'll have fun for days!

In things like 3dmark, games and encoding the difference is a bit less than margin of error.

p.s. I did my playing with an E2180, so your results may vary.

Well my mobo will NOT do 400FSB, or higher, period, regardless of what I set the multiplier to. It just can't do it. I've tried.

Since it makes basically no difference in games, I think I'll just shoot for stability with 6GB and be done with it.
