So Sweclockers are out with their benchmark. I trust them, because they are very thorough and they do their homework - which is again seen because they completely exclude the disaster that is HairWorks for both NV/AMD card, as well as the fact that the jump from high to ultra is very small.

Basically at 1080p - the most popular resolution according to Steam Survey(1440p and above get less than 3%) - the game seems to run pretty fine even if it is taxing.
So this contradicts the previous doommongering, in part because the other (early) sites didn't do their homework. Some stuff still needs to be fixed but it isn't nearly as bad as the early propaganda stated it, again, because of poor benchmarking decisions from the early sites.
