Hey guys sorry if this seems like a repost. I just wanted some clarification cause I'm still a little confused about some of the post in previous threads.

So the situation is, I currently have the simcard that was in my iphone that was not unlocked. I sold that iphone but took out the simcard to put into a beater phone. Now when the iphone 2.0 comes out, can I stick this simcard directly into the iphone2.0 to have it work without activation? I would really want this because last year when I got the iphone I had a 5$ unlimited m2m txt added to the data plan and I don't want to lose it if I were to reactivate the new iphone. They don't have the 5$ promotion anymore unfortunately.

iPhone activation takes place on the phone itself, not on the SIM card, so you'll have to activate all over again. Unless.. the enterprising hacker community will be swift enough to put out a tool (like Ziphone) so you could activate it yourself without re-signing contract.

Yea, your best bet would be to wait until they figure out a way to unlock it...

I just logged into my ATT wireless account to check out pricing:
Messaging Unlimited $20.00
Messaging 1500 $15.00
Messaging 200 $5.00

that's a pretty good deal you've got it you have it for $5. heck the random text messaging i do occasionally (now that it's $0.15 incurred for both incoming/outgoing messages) brings me to around $3 to $4 some months.

Edit: WTH, text messages are $0.20 now? (my bill is on recurring automatic credit card billing so i don't really read it thoroughly) i remember when text messages were $0.10 each for outgoing messages and free incoming messages. i came across an analysis that estimated that text message costs are more 4 times expensive than what it costs NASA to download data from the Hubble telescope!

news: iphone wireless internet plan now to be $30

originally i got the $5 unlimited mobile2mobile by calling ATT customer service to add it. Apparently that deal was not advertised and my friend who at the time worked at an ATT kiosk told me about it. Unfortunately that deal no longer exists. Most of my friends are on ATT anyway so its awesome w/ the unlimited text to them. Now I don't know what to do... hopefully when i go to activate it on the day I pick up my iphone2.0 they may be able to figure something out to tack it on. Maybe it'll be like how they waive activation fees?
