I dont really game, and i happy with the performance of my p4, but i got this new mobo/processor on a trade, so i was going to swap it out since its supposed to be a step up.seems like it may be more of a pain then anything though.my tower is swap friendly either.is this a pointless swap for me? ahhhhhhhh help plz

If you don't really game, don't worry about it. Although that Barton is a little better. But you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

Depends on his core. If it's Northwood then it's better than Barton.

Yeah but a 2.4C vs a 3000+ Barton....a 3000+ Barton was roughly equal to a 2.8C

Either way I'd say sell the AMD just because I would also be lazy

Depends on what mobo that 2.4C is run on.

If it's run on a i865 or i875 mobo with 2 sticks of DDR, it's going to be just as fast if not faster than a Barton 3K+ because of Hyperthreading and Dual Channel.

Better yet if that 2.4C is on an overclock-friendly board like an Abit IS7 or IC7-- You can crank that Northie up beyond 3.0gHz with a nice heatsink like the Thermalright XP90.

yeah ok but read his post. it isnt an athlon 64. its just a barton

the performance gains are not worth your time and effort to swap out the hardware and reconfigure your windows installation.

if it was an athlon64 3000+ then i would go for it but the performance is so close that i wouldnt bother.

If you overclocked that P4 ( should not be hard, even with a bad board, to get at least 200mhz extra) you should equal or surpass the performance of a barton.

Athlon XP 3000+ > 2.4C. But if you dont do anything cpu intensive, dont bother.

Assuming He uses an i865/i875 MB, Has a Northwood Core, and Overclocks to 3.2, The P4 Dominates AXP in EVERYTHING... LOL @ Being Equal

Well duh. I said Athlon XP 3000>2.4C. That is, a Pentium 4 Northwood at 2.4Ghz. Where did I say it would beat a P4 at 3.2Ghz? Did I mention overclocking even once? Didn't think so.
