Swapping Motherboards

😕

Ok, I currently have a 1ghz Athlon (200FSB) on a FIC AZ-11E with the VIA KT133/686B. I also own a soundblaster live, so needless to say, I have had my fair share of problems between the mobo and card. Recently I ordered a ECS K7S5A with the SiS735 chipset. Now, I am a novice at swapping mobo's (I.E. I have never swapped motherboards in the middle of a computers life, I have just built computers from the groud up). Do I have to uninstall anything in order for my new motherboard to work? I know I have to disable the onboard sound as I will finally be able to use my live card without getting corrupted files, but I am not sure what I have to do to prepare the comp for the new board. Do I have to uninstall the VIA 4in1 release? Do I uninstall anything that came with the old FIC board? Anyway, again, I know I probably sound stupid, but I want to do the switch right with minimal headache. Thanks

Swaping board almost become weekly even for me 😛
BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP!
even you swap out the board with same model, I have seen it crash to ground.
so make sure you back up everything.
I personally prefer do a flash installation everything I get a new board.
But if you must swap with out loading the O/S.
it should work fine, as long as you have all the drive on hand (not inside the hdd, but on CD or FDD). Last thing you want to do is try to get download
a drive and your computer won't boot up.!!
Good luck

It's always best to back up anything you want to keep and do a clean install of your O.S. when changing MOBO's but I've had good success just doing an overlay. That's where you reboot with a start-up floppy diskett and install your OS (win 98, win me,ect..) without deleting the present contents of the drive.
