Well, I'm pretty sure my GA-SINXP1394 board is dead. The rest of the hardware appears to still be in working order. Any suggestions on what to get?

Edit: New question...it's been so long since I've had to do it I've forgotten (use or lose it). If I switch from a GA-SINXP (SiS655) to a GA-8IPE1000 (865PE), will I need to format my HDD or will I be able to boot & go with my current HDD?

The asus p4s800d-x is available for $58 at ewiz. With the same chipset as the gigabyte, you may not have to format. Windows should be able to re-load with just the board drivers.

Thanks. Avoiding a format would most helpful. :)

I went from an Prescott/Asus PE800-SE (i865pe) to a E6300/AsRock 775i65G (i865g) and I did not have to reformat, which was doubly great as I no longer have my Windows disk! I just swapped the new m/b into my existing case and Presto! my Windows welcome screen came up!! I only had to load the proper onboard soundcard and lan drivers. This saved me hours of frustration and grief for sure! (plus got a computer that is 50% faster and whisper quiet!!)

But those are both the Intel 865 chipset, so the drivers are most likely the same...hes going from SIS to VIA drivers, they may be the same, but probably arent, it may boot, but need chipset drivers loaded in if you get to the desktop
