swapping motherboard of same chipset require fresh install?

Hi,
I'm running a DFI ultra-d and wanted to swap to a MSI K8N diamond plus. They have the same chipset, ultra nf4. I have a raid 0 on the ultra-d which i can clone to one single hdd and use that. Will I have to do a fresh install? It would be nice to move to the raid 0 to the new mobo, otherwise i can use the clone. Any input is appreciated!

The main issue is the IDE controller. As long as that is of the same kin, you're usually fine. Even if it isn't, you may get lucky by installing the "Standard PCI IDE" driver before making the swap.

For exactly that reason, cloning a system volume that boots off a softRAID controller onto a single drive, and then attempting to boot that, won't work.

the raid 0 drives are moved to the new mobo and i'm using the clone drive which is working. I just have to see if I can boot from those raid 0 drives which i doublt it will
BTW, thanks all, please keep posting more inputs

I went from an Asus i865pe mb with a Prescott to an Asrock i865G with a E6300 without having to reload windows or any software. I have dozens of finely-tuned programs that I did not want to reload and reset, unless absolutely necessary. Thanks to Intel, the upgrade went off without a hitch and now I have two processors running real fast and quiet! Only the Lan driver needed to be reloaded...
