swapping MoBo, does the OS suffers??

i was wondering from peoples experience how much of a pain, software wire, is it to swap ya MoBo over ??

have a KT133a board & wanna put in an SiS 735 chipset board,
running XP so i imagine be alot easier then with say 98.

 
Well i remember when swapping my OLD socket7 mobo for my ASUS A7A133, having WinXP installed. I had to format my hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch, WinXP simply didnt boot after swapping motherboards. So get ready for formatting and reinstalling everything...
 
well that definately sux!!!

but they are both Socket A boards, so may help my case.

i remeber seeing a link once somehwere saying "taking the hassle out of upgrading your MoBo"

daveqb, if you un-install your bus drivers before switching your mobo, then re-install them, things should go smoothly for you. Not to say there might not be some issues, that's the best way to do it if you don't want to do a wipe and reload.
 
I have now tried 4 times to get XP to allow a MB swap and only 1 has been successful. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it either. I tried Intel to AMD, AMD to Intel and Socket A to Socket A. The one that worked was an ECS/Intel board running a Celeron switched to a Socket A (133A chipset). Booted to Safe Mode, then normally without a hitch. Go figure! Save yourself the hassle and just do the format and reload. Your system will be better off in the long run. Just reloaded my 98SE system with XP Pro this weekend. Yes, I have knots in my shoulders from the tension, the cats are afraid to come near me, my wife stopped speaking to me yesterday and my office looks like it has been torn apart by the FBI: But hey, I have a nice clean load of XP now and it runs like it never has before! Now I must go shopping for some Bengay, Cat treats, a dozen roses and a box of trash bags; not necessarily in that order. 😉

i am opting for the re-install of Win after reading that.

i am well prepared for formats; got my HDD partitioned (C:\6 gigs, D:\33 gigs)

got all the latest drivers on D & wil download the board drivers for this new/old board i wanna put in

got this procedure down pat; i can re-format & install windowsAND all the drivers and my apps in under 2 hours 🙂 done it a few times

Plus my HDD has somehow slippe to UDMA mode 2, even a system restore cant get it back to UDMA mode 5,
but theres no errors for it in the Event Viewer ?!?!
