I know you can't swap a hard drive between different motherboards and expect things to work ok, but is there anything specific about same model CPUs that doesn't allow you to swap say.... a 2.8c for another without reformatting? The reason I ask is my computer was running great while my dads was getting random crashes. His is identical to mine with the exception of motherboards. To determine what was causing crashes in his computer, I took his CPU, Vid card, and RAM, and put them in my computer. I ended up determining that both the video card and the RAM might be bad, so I'll RMA both, but I left the CPU in there because I figured one 2.8c is the same as another, but I kept getting crashes every 5-6 hours, mostly while using the TV function on my 9600 AIW card.
So the question is.... is there something specific about CPUs that don't allow you to swap them? I put my original CPU back in my system (along with the other stuff that was already replaced) and we'll see if it crashes at some point during the night, but I thought I'd throw that out there for the time being so I can determine whether I should RMA that processor for the hell of it.
