This thing is so much quieter its insane. The hum from my 3007WFP is louder than the 580 at idle.

580 card hits 68C vs 88C on my 480 in Fallout NV too :)

The 580 looks sexi for the 2560res crowd, but anything lower it seems like overkill.

Here's to hoping for great things from 28nm and games that warrant the performance.

I can picture nVidia doing a 580 die-shrink to 28nm as a quick refresh before Kepler. Similar performance for half the heat, noise, cost, and power consumption. Or maybe they'll just crank the clock up by 40% and charge $500 again.

I wish I had a 30" for 2560x1600 goodness!!
I guess I'll get there one day though.

The GTX 580 is a really nice card. I'm late to party but I should be getting a GTX 480 in a couple weeks. I might even get lucky with a GTX 580 soon after that. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. :D

I read all the posts nothing about performance.

You said it handlez super hi res very nicely which is nice. But other then that is it the same gaming experience you had with your GTX 480 which is a monster in itself. I mean you are either rich or have lots of money lol cuz its a pointless upgrade from a 480 to 580 that fast. Wait for new stuff to come out and prices to fall. Your 480 purchase should last you until 2012 easy.... but you jumped the gun and payed another 600 bones for a 580 , and you probably didnt see a difference in performance things are soo fast already. gg and tc

'Tis better to be rich or 'tis better to have lots of money? Only a great philosopher could answer this question.

rich and stupid is the best combo so that when i buy a ferrari for every day of the week i don't have to feel dumb for doing it.

no need, the 580 has lower heat/noise/power than typical ultra highend cards anyway. if they shrink the 580 first it will just be to get the experience before trying it on a new arch.

confucious say: man who runs in front of car get tired.

Wow! That's considered to be 'stupid'? I always thought that having a few Ferraris for separate days of the week would be akin to living very well. A large number of Ferrari owners own several at a time.

Going from a 480 to a 580 isn't dumb at all. Getting the 480 in the first place kinda was though.

Heyyy, everyone has different priorities, right? I'm sure his reason is not just for speed but to make the thing less loud than his speaker and stop his processor from melting :) I'm sure he sold his 480 for a good price to offset the cost.

I'm waiting for next year as I've got a Zoltec AMP 470 and that's fast (and quiet!) enough for me.... But nice purchase OP, enjoy it.

Maybe less noise and less heat was worth it to him, big shot.

If he were worried about heat and noise, he wouldn't have bought a 480.. ;)
Maybe after experiencing it first hand for an extended period of time, he changed his mind. That is, in fact, what he mentioned first and foremost in the OP and why he was so happy.

;)
