Swaping Cpu's?

I have all the parts except for the E6400 cpu. It's been preordered, and was suppose to be in stock on the 2nd of this month. I went to the site the other day, and now it's been pushed back to the 28th!

I have never been so jerked around in my life!

Anyway I ordered a cheap Celeron (from Newegg, which will be here this afternoon)so I could complete the system.

My question is: What is involved in swaping the Celeron for Core2Duo? Will I have to do a re-install, or will XP just reconize the new cpu(E6400)?

The mb is the Asus P5B, with Corsair ddr2-800 xm2 6400c4 2x1gb ram. There is a chance that I may have to update the bios, but that shouldn't be a problem using the Celeron.

I've built systems before, but never had to change cpu's

I believe you can just swap the CPUs but I could be wrong, I've only ever swapped CPUs within the same family (just faster) but switching from a Celeron to a Core 2 Duo might have a greater effect and confuse Windows.

Thanks,

Tsaico, I called Asus today, and the tech said the same thing, but he said that if you change just one thing, XP won't want to phone home, and I should be good to go!

Just make sure your bios supports the new cpu and it will be fine. You need to go into bios the first time and check all the settings related to the cpu.
