Swaping a harddrive question

I want to swap a good harddrive out of my old computer-(it has Win 2K OS installed on it plus all my old software). My old machine is a Pentium 3 Dell machine.

I want to put it into a AMD computer it is the K6-2/500 CPU.

Can I swap the harddrive without to many probs i.e will it run without any major changes in drivers etc will Win 2K pick up the new hardware of the new system etc.

Or will I have to reinstall everything.

Any advice appreciated.

Regards

Thanks diehard that looks like a bit of a nightmare to go that way me thinks that a reformat of the harddrive and reinstall of software may be the way to go..

First try it without a format and see how it goes. You might be pleasantly surprised. If not, then format and start over. Nothing lost but a little time.

Uninstall drivers you can that aren't compatible with new setup. i.e. (chipset drivers, Onboard audio, etc...) put all vital drivers on cd or Floppy. However in the long term its always best to format and install fresh. Format and reinstall takes only 1 hour on most new PCs. Configurationa dn software instll takes longer but it usually doesnt take me longer than a day or so.
