I have a E-Machine T2893 that my wife really likes and a Dell 4550 that I really like. Guess which one will be placed in the living room???

Anyway, I use the one in the living room the most, the problem is the E-Machine has a Celeron (Prescot) and the Dell has a P IV (Northwood). I want to swap the processors out, I've seen posts where I believe the Dell can support the Prescott, but does anyone know if the E-Machine will support the Northwood?

Thanks.

The answer is Yes for the E-Machine, No for the Dell. :(

If it supports a Prescott-based Celeron, it should support any Northwood Pentium 4. Normally I would be more concerned about the Dell.

Do note that they are both based on very similar chipsets (the Dell uses Intel's 845PE, the eMachines is 845GV). This is particularly interesting because neither appears to support an 800 MHz Front Side Bus, which would actually indicate that neither would support higher-end Pentium 4s (including Northwood C).
