Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me out here on an issue I'm having.

I purchased a NVR8-7300 Swann brand security system. I have 6 SWNHD-815 cameras and two SWNHD-817PTZ cameras. I'm having an issue with one 815 and both 817 cameras.

The issue is I keep getting internment "video loss" signals from all three. It will show the video for a bit and then cut out and the screen will say "video loss".

I have changed the cameras to different ports on the dvr, manually reset the cameras and swapped out CAT5E lines. Still having issues.

The 817's are newly installed today. The 815 are poe cams, while the 817's are connected via cat5e with a power source which each cameras have their own power adapter.

Prior to hooking up the 817's, I had the nvr and monitor connected into wall outlets, however still had the internment video loss on just one out of the six 815 cams.

I had to plug the nvr into a power strip and plug the two adapters for the 817's into the power strip and then the strip into the wall.

I'm really not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!

Have you tried rebooting the the dvr?
Do you have the latest firmware for the DVR? It should be GA3.1, the dvr might require new firmware for the 817 to work properly. (the update says it only adds auto update, but it might also add support for 817 cameras)

Most likely the cameras are defective and you need to send them for replacement.

Is the camera an interior or exterior installation?
If its exterior, is the video loss related to time of day? (temperature/sun exposure)
Is the cabling exposed to the elements?

Have you tried the cameras on a shorter ethernet run? (replacing one of the other working cameras to test it)

The issue with the SWNHD-817PTZ seems a little weird since both are getting video loss. But it seems like they're just plug and play, so there aren't any settings to worry about.

7. To perform a factory reset, disconnect the power
input, hold down the reset button, reconnect
the power input and continue holding the button
for at least 20 seconds then release.

Summary
1. Protect the cable from the elements to avoid deterioration.
2. Avoid electrical equipment where electrical interference is expected.
3. Avoid sharp bends and do not bend the cable greater than 90 degrees.
4. Do not over tighten when using cable ties.
5. Avoid using a staple gun to secure the cable to a wall.
6. Do not stretch or apply force greater than 25lbs/11kgs.
7. Use electrical tape to seal the connection(s) when joining multiple cables together

First, let me say thank you for your thoughtful response. I have gotten way more help than I did from the swann tech!

1. I have rebooted and even formatted three dvr.

2. The cameras came with the latest firmware.

3. I really hope they aren't defective, but I think you are probably right.

4. It's an exterior installation.

5. The video loss is happening at all times of the day and night.

6. Only a very small section of the cable is exposed before it goes into the wall. None of the connections etc are exposed.

7. I haven't tried the 817's on anything shorter than the amount of cable that came with the camera. I'm using original cables from the manufacturer. The only 815 I'm having issues with, I did change out the cable and still the same problem.

8. Yeah, they just plug right in. Nothing to do but the update. To me it's strange that both of them would be having an issue. I'm wondering if it isn't a power issue. Like they are shutting down due to no power, power gets restored, cameras come back on.

9. I have reset them until my thumbs hurt, lol.

10. I looked at all the install instructions you provided, and I went back and checked the wires, they all seem fine.
