svideo to rca converter

I got a little svideo to rca converter a while back with my ati radeon 9800, and i tried using it for the first time today with my laptop. However, when I went to the vid card properties (on my laptop a ati radeon 9000), it would not register a tv as another display. Svideo without a converter works fine, but if i plug in the converter with an rca cable, the comp doesn't recognize the tv as a display. Do i just happen to have a defective one, or is there an easy fix.

well when svideo is hooked up to tv, when i go to display properties, i can switch to tv display, but when I'm using the adapter, it doesn't recognize that there's a tv.

There should be an option in the advanced dialogue that says something along the lines of "My connected TV does not appear." Do you have any screenshots?

See that button on "where i acn turn on tv" that says "Troubleshoot?" Here's what to do:
1. Move mouse pointer by pushing mouse across desk over the button
2. Hold your finger over the LEFT (make sure it's not the one on the right) mouse button
3. Firmly press STRAIGHT DOWN and release.

well, since its a notebook, i can't get the real drivers off the ati website, but i'm trying to dl and install hydravision to see if that helps

Why can't you get the real drivers?
And is it a true ATi Radeon or is it third-party manufactured, like my Visiontek Radeon 9550?

Maybe the solution would be to wait until the new drivers come out.

If you don't mind having duplicate images then you might just consider getting a dvi splitter then a dvi to rca adapter... although that may be a pain.
