SVGA to Component Video

I need a wire/adapter/converter under $30 that will use an SVGA signal and output component video. I am trying out some things because in the next half year or so we'll hopefully be getting a projection screen setup with 7.1 surround sound and the whole 9 yards.

I have not been able to find a SVGA -> Component Video adapter for under 100 dollars. Maybe you can get one off egay for less.

Hi,

You will not be able to find a converter to do that for less than $30. The problem is that component video isn't the same as RGB. The simplistic answer is that it's actually Y (some think of this as luminance but it's not really), R-Y (Pb), and B-Y (Pr). The Y signal also carries the sync pulses.

ATI's solution is to provide a adapter that tells the video card to output YPbPr instead of RGB. That's why it's so cheap, it's not really doing anything.

The only other solutions are the purchase a transcoder or purchase a TV with the transcoder built in.
