My question is...

Can both solutions listed above be implemented on the same "repeater" router? In other words, can you configure the repeater router to act as a range extender for an existing wireless network as well as a wireless bridge for an ethernet device?

My situation is that I want to hook my xbox up to the repeater router via cat5 (on the 2nd floor of the house) and have it communicate with a computer on the lan through the main router via the wireless link (both computer and main router on the first floor). Other wireless computers on the lan on the second floor cannot communicate with the main router on the first floor due to signal strength issues. I have already tried pumping the transmit power up some, which doesn't seem to help. I would like the wireless computers on the second floor to use the repeater router as a range extender for the router on the first floor, while using the repeater router as a wireless ethernet bridge for the xbox at the same time.

Is this possible? If so, are there any steps you could provide to make this work for me?

I think what you might want is the WDS feature. It allows both routers to be configured so that they both have the same SSID and encryption settings and essentially appear as one network. Then the router that has the internet connection will provide internet to all the other WDS routers. As a result, the clients on other WDS routers will be forwarded to the primary router for internet access (I think this is transparent to the user and clients). Then you could increase the transmit power on both routers so that the signal strength is better between the two.

Keep in mind that the current public firmware release (Satori 4.0) does not have encrypted WDS capability. WPA/802.11x encryption over WDS has been added with the subscriber firmware versions known as Alchemy.

I don't know a whole lot about WDS and it would be a much wiser option to subscribe to the Sveasoft forums for support. Since a lot of people there actually have stuff like this working.
