SVC host error on startup

lozina

Lifer
lately when I restart my comp right when the Os starts up (before even logging in) I get one of those memory exception dialog boxes referencing svchost.exe. Then when I log in I get 3 successive dialog boxes from windows telling me it has shut down svchost.exe for security reasons or something like that.

Any idea what's the matter?

Windows XP SP2

I have AVG antivirus active and constantly updated, running a full scan now.

What firewall do you use?
AVG whilst it does have its plusses, isn't the most effective av. If you can download (and dl the update as well) KASPERSKY trial, then that is a good place to start.
Also, while you are at it,
MicrosoftAntispywareBETA
ADAWARE (lavasoft)
Spybot Search & Destroy
Spysweeper.
All are free, or have free trials.
Run them all in safe mode, after you have disabled system restore (cos a virus can hide there if it is well written)

I use Sygate personal firewall and of course there's a hardware firewall (the router).

I ran hijack this and cleared some entries I thought were kind of suspicious and it seems to have cleaned up some of the entries but I still get one memory exception error on startup
