I'm not so rich, so i cant afford an sk6 or 8045 right now, so which one should i go with?

Or do you reccommend another heatsink under $20?

And if i go with the gc68, which fan should i use? a panaflo or ys tech?

Both may be purchased here

thx

I bought the Volcano 7 for my xp 1800, but sadly i cant post my cpu temp because newegg sent me a dead iwill 333-r. (my first rma out of thousands of dollars of merchandise bought from them.) It is a pain to get on and off, i'm always afraid im going to break the cpu because the force it takes to snap it on. But it looks sweet, and i like the features.

Ditto what he said on the Volcano. I'd avoid Thermaltake products like the plague.

And, oh, the good things he's heard about the GC68 are true. It's a great unit, and i switched to it from using an Alpha 8045, so that's a pretty good compliment, considering what it had to live up to after replacing the Alpha :)

The GC-68 is an awesome Budget Heatsink. It provides good cooling at a minimal price. The Stock fan on the GC-68 is really quiet. it does not put out a lot of cfm, it does the job.

The Volcano 7 is another one of Thermaltakes Heatsinks. It performs decent and looks pretty nice. I wouldn't trust hte actual variable speed values, but it does change as the temp rises/drops. ;).

Again, it's your choice as always. The GC-68 is probably what i would choose.

I have to speak up for the Volcano 7. The variable speed fan does work (with a minor modification). I'm running an overclocked XP 1600 (1575). The cpu is running at 38 and is 41 under load. The fan varies from about 3500 to just over 4000. It has never gotten to 5000 because the temp never gets that high. I moved the thermal sensor from the default location and put it between the tines of the heat sink. It measures the heat sink temp now and that works pretty well. I am extremely happy with it. I have a friend with an SK6/delta combo and my temps are as good as his without the hair dryer imitation. He modded his fan so he can manually adjust the speed because it was so loud. (Just last week, he went to an 80 mm fan for the sk6 which has helped). Even before the wire sensor mod the temps were good as the fan still moved a decent amount of air. Additionally, the footprint is pretty good. The V7 will fit on almost any motherboard as it is tapered so the bottom is smaller than the top. It has gotten some good reviews as well (check mikhailtech and overclockedcafe).
