I still have a SVC GC68 lying around in my room and just got the duron bundle at fry's for a friend. I'm thinking it should work perfectly fine on the duron but wanted to double check. Anyone know if it would cool a duron?

--------------------
Thought I'd update this thread instead of creating a new topic for another question.

I'm planning to get a couple of athlon XP bundles (2000+, 2200+, and/or 2400+) from fry's in the coming month and need cheap, quiet, and efficient HSFs to cool them. I checked the SVC website and it doesn't state what CPUs this HSF would cool and neither does newegg on the speeze falconrock (was recommended on another thread). Anyone like to share facts or experiences? Thanks

Also... I think someone should get a thread on recommended HSFs stickied up top.

hsf's are way overrated. I use the gc69 on all the systems I build. They cool with no problems at all. You don't need 2lbs of copper on your cpu to get the job done.

Duron processor uses too much voltage w/default 1.75, try lowering it to 1.55v or 1.6v and it should run much cooler even with the crappy HSF, say 42-43c instead of 51-52c
on idle. with full load 45-46c, with 1.75v 57-59c
I suggest replacing them all with new duron 1.6ghz and you can overclock to at least 1.896ghz on 1.5v and it should still run plenty cool say 44-46c, or 47-48c at full load.
in short the problem is not cooling, its amd stupid voltage default setting thats too high to begin with.
