SVC GC-68 for $7.99

Here's a review:

http://www.ocmodshop.com/gc68.asp

I know that at at svcompucycle.com, it says "SVC GC68 for XP2100+", but what are your realworld thoughts?

I'm thinking of getting this for an Athlon 1.4 thunderbird, and would like to use it when I upgrade to an XP2100 later?

Nice heatsink/fan......tempting.

One thing though....might want to EDIT your post to be more desciptive (I didn't know what SVC GC-68 was) and include a shipping cost.

As an example, it was $4.35 to check out for me.....so total was around $12.35.

Also, why not edit your post with the review instead of anoter post?

Anyhow, here's a LINK to original post, and a LINK to the review.

My $.02

I'll personally vouch for this cooler, I'm surprised it doesn't get the attention that some of the other coolers get. Albeit, I am often bothered by its clip, however, its cooling performance is unarguable (it kicks major b00ty)

Peace

<< will this work on a P3 socket 370 too? or no? >>

which one? the 2.19 one said ok. Just have the shipping in mind.

all amd socket A heatsinks are interchangeable with socket 370 (P3, celeron, and tualatin). they are the exact same socket.

I just ordered this from SVC. $21.xx for the heatsink, and extra 80mm fan, AS3, and a Y.S tech 60mm fan with shipping. Not bad. These guys are usually pretty quick and I have always had good service from them.

I am interested in how well this will work with my XP1700. Anyone have this processor and heatsink combo that can share thei experinces?

I will be using this hsf in my cousins new system. We will be using the 1700xp with ecs mobo that frys has on sale right now. Will let youknow as soon as I get it running. On my other cousins rig, this hsf, dropped the temps 2C.

bump for a great company!
I just bought a GC68, 60mm fan (one's dying at work) and 2 panaflo's for the wifes new computer. Hope it cools good.

SVC is a great company.

the GC68 is $6.99 now since friday! dang i just placed an order of 4 of these on monday...have anyone had any luck with a price adjustment?

Arkane: It's just four dollars--don't sweat it! Consider it a donation to the AT community. More profit for SVC=more deals for us. 😀

I was one of the first tp praise these in the cases and cooling forums (do a search from a couple of months ago).
This is GREAT bang for the buck! have used them in quite a few systems I have built. With the stock 80mm cooling fan (quiter of the 2 it comes with), it keeps my XP1800 (XP1700 oc'ed to 1800) @ a nice 38 or so on a k7s5a in an sx1040b with 3 panaflo L1a's. If I knew about it before I bought my Alpha 8045 for my main rig, I would have gone the GC-68 route for sure as I only notice a 2-3 degree difference between the 2 in identical cases about 6 feet from each ohter (altho the mobos are different so temp difference may be more dramatic.

You can't go wrong with it for $12 and change shipped.
Only negative is the clip is a pain in the A$$, but if you have a small flathead screwdriver, you will be fine.

I got one of these to replace my modded Volcano 5. So far, it doesn't perform as well. It gets about 5 degs C hotter when idle. It looks really nice, but as for bang for the buck the Volcano 5 works better for me. The mod I did was that I ripped off the 60mm fan and tie wrapped on a 80mm. Took me about 2 minutes to do and it runs quieter than the GC-68 with the slow (quieter) fan.

1YellowPeril: but i also got a lot of other heatsinks, fans and other accessories..almost everything i bought is now marked down. All together i could of saved about $15. but you're right...i've saved so much from these forums that $15 isn't too bad of a "loss". nevertheless, i emailed them to see what they'd say.

Arkane: I hate it when that happens. Hope SVC will be nice about it. Maybe you can get store credit or something. BTW: I ordered from SVC at 2 PM and got a shipping tracking number at 4 PM!!
