SUVs are for OFFROAD!!!

One real peeve I have is with people that think "SUVs" are somehow a "large commuter car" option. Its a nice smooth road and they drive with their four wheel drive on. They think THATS what they were made for? Sport utilities are just that, for sport and off road! This seems to be a real problem, and I'd think totally illegal. (should be)

As much as I agree that too many people drive SUVs when they should be driving more fuel efficient vehicles... you know what... nevermind. I shouldn't have to say anything.

Not if you need lots of passenger room. SUV = very small inside (even though they look big on the outside).

Most SUVs would make fairly bad ORVs.

How could you possibly know if someone has their car in 4WD or not?
There are few SUVs that are actually intended for offroad use, anyway. Let me see you go offroading in your Murano

they do hav a fat cargo room....you can fit 7 people comfortably....its just hard to get in to the back seat.

i think its funny how people will buy the4wd option on a nice suv but then NEVER actually use it offorad...or even up a moutain or anywhere. I have a boss that bought like a 50K SUV /w offroad package (4wd prettymuch but a couple other nice options) and he will never drive it offroad or off city streets (by his own admission)
I say if people want to waste their money let them, pays the bills for some poor assembly line worker whos building them at least.

It's very handy to have in the snow.

When that once in a decade comes, your boss will have the last laugh 🙂
Of course since he is a noob he will assume that he can drive as if it were clear and dry and realize all-too-late that 4WD doesn't help you stop any better.
So I guess you'll get the last laugh. Enjoy it when it comes 😀

Edit: So pickups are for farms, sport cars are for the track, and your mom is for the trailer park.

Excellently played.

I think we can end this thread now 🙂

Today's SUV aren't too offroad capable. If the H2 has problems with offroading, how do thing a RAV4 and like will do?

what about those station wagons that the japanese have conned people into thinking that they're SUVs?

Yes SUVs come in all shapes and sizes, so do vans. But in every size category, a van typically has FAR more cargo room. Bring the floor up ~1 foot without changing the roof height and you see why. If you really need the space, a van is the way to go.

SUVs sure have their uses. But often a van can't be beat.

No van has the passanger AND cargo room an XL Suburban/Denali has.

I've seen no van that can seat 7-8 people AND still fit all their luggage and camping gear in the back.
