The irony is, Rupert supported the Democrats up until Reagan. Wondered what happened such that he started to support Republicans instead.

Convincing rich greedy people that poor colored people are stealing their money without working for it turns out to be a very effective strategy.

He's pretty much always supported the Conservatives here, as far as I know. Though he did briefly try to cosy up to Blair (or maybe it was more that Blair was desperate to keep Murdoch happy?).

He does like to keep in with whoever is in power. He also had a track record of going easy on the Chinese Communist Party, when he had ambitions in Asia - I remember someone pointing out how the Tiennamen Square massacre was regularly referred to as the Tiennamen Square 'incident' in Murdoch publications. My recollection is the Murdoch press was also oddly sympathetic to Erdogan's lot - the only Islamists they liked.

Murdoch is simply a much smarter, more clever version of that man-child by the name of Trump in that they both seek more wealth for no other reasons than to have more of it along with the power and leverage such wealth brings. When tyrants like that have gotten bored with showering themselves with every material thing their hearts desired, all they've got left is the desire to wield their wealth like a sledge hammer to force their will and desires through those gov't agencies they've managed to corrupt and their bought and paid for lackeys they've finagled into our courts.

Trump simply managed to bring all of that sleaze out into the light of day for the world to see, and wad'da you know, these well-to-do cockroaches feeding off of the middle class and the poor, being so used to having their way didn't mind at all having that glare shining on them assuming nothing would change their habits having the power and influence they flout about.
