On my work PC, I keep getting a CAPTCHA prompt. http://forums.anandtech.com/SSCaptcha.php

To call the CAPTCHA images beyond impossible to get right (I cannot emphasize how much I ****ing LOATHE reCAPTCHA - can you not use the Google robot scripts instead?) is a serious understatement. And reverting to trying the audio where it gives you numbers plain doesn't work. I type in what I hear and....I get tossed back to a new CAPTCHA.

And when I do finally manage to enter a CAPCHTA to make the bloody thing happy and let me load a page, the NEXT page load is another CATCHPA - I must go through this for every page I load.

What gives? I've never seen this before...

I get the same trying to load the RSS feed in my custom reader. Since that page isn't RSS this is a problem.

Hey there RampantAndroid,

Recently we added a new security feature to the forums to prevent scraping and bots from crawling the forum, and it sounds like you are bumping into this. Is there anything unusual going on with the browser you are using from work? If you'd like, you can private message me the IP address range from work and we can add it to the whitelist.

Something is blocking the atforums.mobi site. I think it might be this.

I was getting this intermittently as well. I'll stop by the forums over lunch break.
Visit a few pages in OT, post a few things, then suddenly every single page load results in the Suspicious Activity thing. I can only view threads then, not post anything - it won't redirect properly then.

Yeah, I'm still getting this sometimes. It should cache the fact that I correctly completed the CAPTCHA...but it doesn't. So I'm just dropping by here less now. It seems like the system needs a bit of work.

We are testing a new system from an outside vendor. I'll tell them to take a look at this thread. Are you guys blocking javascript or using an ad blocker?

I am having issues now, after years of posting. I am also using Adblock (not plus), but white-listed this site. The only solution is going through a different VPN server. Can anyone look into this as I can't post from mobile or desktop without connect through a VPN.

Now it's working on my home network and mobile. Was there a glitch yesterday?

Hmm,it seems AT forums is working in the same fashion as Tomshardware. This type of thing happened when I used adblockers or addons like ghostery in Tomshardware. Now similar things happening over here.

Adblockers should not have any effect on your ability to browse the forums, although we do appreciate when people whitelist us (ads suck, trust me, I get it).

Ghostery does cause problems though. As jpishgar mentioned above, we do employ various security features to prevent people from scraping the forum or having bots crawl through it. Since you mentioned Tom's Hardware, the system used there is called "Distil", and is likely the same one we are using here; that "Suspicious activity detected" message is one that they serve up. You can set Ghostery to not block Distil, which should remove any instances of those messages.

I am not using any adblockers or other add-ons these days. Let me be part of revenue generation :)
But the problems that used to happen at Tomshardware was blocking the ip for a period which was quite annoying and it also used to break the forum/page navigation(before being blocked) .
And here at AT forums the post contents used to become "undefined".Previously just whitelisting anandtech.com in noscript used to work well enough.
Anyway I don't use ghostery or such add-ons these days,so not much of a problem for me as an individual but there might be some others facing some issues. :)
