suspension experts

I have a 95 GMC yukon that has a 3" body lift as of now.
Im wanting to throw atleast 35" tires maybe 36's.
I have a few questions about lifts:

I have running boards that do a great job or covering up the body/frame so I was thinking of just going the cheap way and adding another 2-3" of body lift to it giving it a 5-6" body lift. My question is, can you just add to the body lift or do they make a 5-6" body lift kid?

Ive heard about tightening your torsion bars and then putting blcoks in the back, how does this work and how much is it?



if I decide to not do one of the above ways, I will more than likely buy a full 4-6" suspension lift and add that with the 3" body I alrdy have installed but I just wanted to see my options.



Also, I put me and my dad put the body lift on, took about 4-6 hours in our garage. My dad used to be a mechanic for 14 years but do you think me and him would have any problem putting on a suspension lift by ourselves? dont owrry about the equipment, im sure we can cover that.

Now that you already have a body lift, I suggest following up with a suspension lift. Body lifts just make it so you can throw bigger tires underneath... it's the suspension lift that really gives you the ground clearance.

If you go with the 36" tires, you should look into getting your diff gears switched out to something shorter, or else you'll lose a lot of low-end power. Bigger tires make for longer gear ratios.

i love the look of your blazer.

i would do a suspension lift on the yukon, i dont like the look of it w/ just the body lifted.

as for suspension lift, i dont mind a suspension but I dont mud the yukon, i just want it for looks(stupid I know)

just trying to find the easiest,cheapest way to fit 35" swampers under it.



i have a 76 bronco that is my mudding toy althou my atv gets most the work done=]

hmmm do you need the extra clearance?
Theres no point in lifting the body if the tires you want fit anyway. Body lifts dont give you any extra off road clearance, so unless the bigger tires rub theres no point in doing so.

Do you take those things off road at all?

The blazer looks good the way you have it right now, thought i think black brush guard would look better. Also look into getting some new tires 😉

what is the point of lifting your truck if you don't go offroading? you don't get any type of handling benefits from it. Not to mention the increased danger of getting in to an accident with another normal height vehicle
 
First off, you have altezzas on that thing, you need to take them off and have a friend throw them at your head. Second, a 5" body lift is dangerous at best. No companies that I know of even make 5" body lifts, and stacking them is scary. lets not even get into things such as steering, wires, and various lines.
 
body lifts are garbage. especially that much. take it down to 1" max body lift, get a proper suspension lift and then put 35s on it.

and do NOT do a cheap torsion bar block lift. get a PROPER lift. you should be able to do this in your garage if you have the proper tools, tho all the lifts i've helped install were on jeeps.

those are the besst tires money can buy, the 1200$ worth of tires, and their like 4 months old. they look old in the pics, my cam sucks like whoa.

first off, just becuz you dont like altezzas, dont flame me, no i dont like them anymore, the blazer has been sold for about 2 months now. I wanted to replace them about 2 months after i got them, but i sold my stock ones. the yukon came with the chrome ones, bite me.

whats the point of riced out cars that will never ever see a track in their life? whats the point of getting a 9800 pro when you play quake3 arena? if you got the money, then do whatever you want, am i right?
 
The 3" body lift you have is the max you would want, as previously suggested, go with the suspension lift, and minimal body lift.

So far as the torsion bar thing, the more you crank on the torsion bars the ride will get stiffer and stiffer since you are effectively taking some of the travel from the suspension. The tighter they are cranked also places the torsion bar under greater stress at all times than it was originally designed for, and stress in it will increase exponentially as the suspension travels up.

You also wind up cranking them so much to get a decent amount of ride height increase that you make the truck impossible to align since you have changed the geometry of the front suspension so radically. For most purposes, you wouldnt want to try to get more than about 1/4 to 1/2" of lift from torsion bar cranking, or for most people minor adjustments to side to side ride height after changing springs or as springs age.

Nothing completely wrong with blocks in back, but more than likely you will be happier with the overall package if you get rear springs in the lift you install.

You can always in stall a quality front suspension lift with blocks for now, and replace the rear springs with springs that go with the front lift system as budget allows.

thx, that helps alot. since I dont wanna fork out the money for a 1200 suspension lift, I think im going to go with new rims and tires.


thinking of gettnig some 16x8 american eagle alloy 1469s and wrap 33" 13.50 LTB's or 33" 11.50 thornbirds..

Dont do it half assed. Get a spring/ suspension lift. Watch your pinion angle going up like that. My scout fits 31's and flexs about uhhh 3 feet with nbo problem.
