Is it possible to suspend cell phone service, specifically with Verizon?

Basically keep your account and phone number but disable the service and not pay for it for a while?

Verizon will suspend your service, it just extends the length of your contract to cover the time of suspension.

if your not in a contract why not just port the number over to a prepaid phone - I doubt verizon would let you suspend without paying something and its only like $60 to setup an account with tracfone for a year...

I'd call them and ask, but what Drakkon suggested above may be your best option if you aren't in a contract and they don't have an option for you.

how good is tracfone? any coverage maps like the big cell providers have?
looks like most of the phones they offer are pretty crappy.

What do you care... you were going to suspend your service????

Tracfone mostly uses Tmobile towers, at least it did the last time I used it (around 10months ago in Las Vegas).

Because you lose your number if you can't suspend your service and are forced to cancel it.

I know ATT offers this, they will hold it for up to 6 months or a year or something

got an email from verizon and said i can suspend it for 90 days after paying $15. after 90 days it reactivates. sucks that they can't do it for longer.

they did offer me a loyalty 100 plan though, which is 100 anytime minutes and 500 Night and Weekend Minutes a month for $25 per month. They also said I was still on contract until 12/29 2009 but I was pretty sure that my old contract was up, especially since I'm eligible for the new every 2 thing.
