Where is anisakiasis found?
Anisakiasis is most commonly found in areas where eating raw fish is popular, such as Japan. However, since eating sushi is becoming very common, there have been cases seen in the United States, Europe, South America, and other areas of the world. Anyone who eats undercooked or raw fish or squid is at risk.

What are the signs and symptoms?
The signs and symptoms of anisakiasis are abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distention, diarrhea, blood and mucus in stool, and mild fever.

Yeah... with about 10 cases reported per year in the entire U.S. I'll take my chances.

Eating anything from the produce section is more risky than eating sushi.

I went to the best sushi place the other day! They were doing some incredibly cool stuff, very creative. Different hot and sweet sauces (mango, blood orange, etc) that went FANTSTIC with maguro, super creative veggie rolls, etc.

I was skeptical but it did turn out to be awesome.

Always finish it up with nice simple hamachi though. That's like dessert sushi practically. MMmmmmmm

We go over this once of month or so and the CONSENSUS is that sushi is disgusting. I know it, you know it, vegetable lasagna (which is not disgusting) knows it, now we all know it. See you next month.
