sushi/ wasabi question

ok, quick question. my g-friend and i were arguing about this. When eating sushi do you mix the wasabi in with the soy, or actually spread a small amount on?

Usually you mix it with the soy. It's so strong you wouldn't get much of the fish flavor if you put it on directly.

you mix it w/ soy sauce.

some sushi (rolled with rice) has a dab of wasabi between the fish and rice.

reminds me of the part in Jackass: The Movie, when they snorted wasabi 😀

I think it's much more common to mix the wasabi with soy sauce to make a dipping sauce rather than putting wasabi on by itself.

Some types of sushi and especially sashimi come with wasabi on them, though.

Traditionally, they will dab a little wasabi on the rice, then the fish cut on top. It gives the eater a nice unexpected KICK in the FACE where your nose kills you and the hairs on the top and back of your head tingle.

I like putting the wasabi in those little mixing dishes and adding soy sauce to dilute the hot sh*t.

Well, i do not eat wasabi, i just eat the sushi.

Anyways, does it really matter? Either way, you are gonna dip it both.

Wasabi tastes like dirt. Maybe I just had bad wasabi. 😕

You had bad wasabi. It should taste kinda like horseradish on steroids.

I'll take you out for some really good sushi the next time you hit Atlanta.

hummm ive never thought of it that way. thats a really good way of describing it.
Well, it is horseradish. It just cleans out your sinuses like nobody's business if you get a good dose of it. 😀

Interesting, I don't eat the sushi only the wasabi.

Just wasabi plain. Maybe one piece with soy. Most Soy is just too salty so I do some with wasabi and some without but then again I am using it on sashimi and not sushi.

If I eat wasabi at all I usually just spread a little bit directly on the roll...

mmm.... sushi....

I live 15 miles away from a Japanese Steakhouse that has an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet every day from 11:00-2:00 for only $12.95. And their fish is flown in fresh daily.

When ONLY eating the sushi (fish), you would normally mix wasabi in with the soy sauce. However, if you are eating sushi with a lump of rice, it is common to have a little wasabi between the fish and rice. Anyways, I'm not a big fan of wasabi, I actually prefer this red spicy sauce called 'cho-jahng'...not sure what it is called in english though.
