What's a really good/the best sushi restaurant around here? My mom's coming out in a few days and we both like Japanese food a lot. Anything up to Hatsuhana quality?

Kitaro is pretty good, its on 22nd and Geary I believe...

If you want an even better place, try a place on Irving and 20th-21st. I forgot what they were called...They don't leave out business hours, they open whenever they want and they seem to be making a lot of money. It's next door to a chinese restaurant on the corner.

Er, actually if you want the restaurant atmosphere I would suggest Kitaro. The place on Irving is more of a takeout thing.

the place on irving you're talking about is yum yum fish i believe.. it's more of a fish market.. but they have the best fish in the city in my opinion.. just has some tonight actually.. they'll do sashimi and sushi.. it's on.. 23rd i believe.. but yah.. not really a restraunt.. but if you maybe want to take it home, and have a dinner at home with your mom.. maybe that being an appetizer, then do that, cause they have the best fish..

kitaro's i heard is good.. i wanna try that place out.. umm... i also like shimo #1 on clement.. i forget the cross street.. around the 20's.. in that area.. but they have great food too..

Yeah - Kitaro is okay but if you want something a bit better try Japantown.

Sushi House in Alameda is really good. Prepare for a decent wait on the weekends.

ewww .. i never really liked that place. Food is decent and the service is crap.

2 best places i've ever been to in the East Bay.

Kirala's in Berkeley
Kamakura's in Alameda

It's been a while for me, but very nice choices. Except that Kirala's is way too busy for dinner, and Kamakura isn't much better (as I remember it).

yeah .. kirala's is totally INSANE at night. If i go, i go when i get off work and wait in line. There's a line forming before they even open up for dinner.

Kamakura's is fine if it's a party of 2 or so. Plenty options. I go to Kamakura's about 3 times a month or so. It's just a short drive.

lots of good-looking options. I might just try Kitaro in San Fran since we're going up to the city anyway. thanks for the replies

Why don't you just take her to todai? Raw fish tastes the same no matter how you slice it. J/K, Kitaro would be nice.

are u guys kidding?...gawd...if ur asking for cheap then ok...go to Kitaro etc...
and we're talking sushi, not 'place with best fish'. Having the best fish does not
best sushi make.

anyway, best place is Ebisu at around 9th Irving. Little pricey. Not really americanized.
its always packed so beware...and its small. Its as close to authentic as u can.
Japanese approved.
