I cannot get any of the built in media players in suse 10 to play mpeg ,avi, wmv, or any other movie files.
do I need to install a back end of some sort?
I am a real noob so saying something like "ya just hash it using th /*Io command" will be useless at this time.
this is the only real issue that keeps me from migrating to Linux.
any help will be appreciated.

for my distro ,

No idea, ask Novell. 😉

how do I install them,

If you get them in RPM format a simple rpm --install file.rpm should work. If they aren't in rpm format, I'm not sure. I've never installed them by hand. 😱

why did come this way out of the box?

Because they aren't Free. Installing these is on the shady side of possibly legal. Unless you want Novell paying for licenses to all this stuff, this is the way it has to be.

ahhh got it its about free vs paid.
so I need to buy a media player?
from whom?
thanks for the links btw

You can get it all for free, it's just mildly shady. 😉

If Suse wanted to support it out of the box, it would probably have to pay.
