Because you didn't expect it the first time, that performance still gives me chills when I hear it again.

No, this one is just devoid of personality. Her interpretation of it is pretty lame.

I don't know what you're talking about, Cry Me A River.
Here's Barbara Streisand for comparison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyx2n_p9OZ8
Here's Celine Dion's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKeALU2JfUA
I just felt more resonated when Susan hits that note, IMO. She reminds me of Sarah Brightman, and I like Sarah's voice a lot. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIrS-iETN9g)

I don't get it. I don't hear this amazing voice that everyone is so blown away by. She doesn't sound any better than a lot of other singers.

Barbara Streisand's rendition is *so* much better.
Susan Boyle does nothing to make this song her own. Her voice is fine, the emotion - the style - is lacking.
Celine Dion is yuck.
Sarah Brightman's voice is both powerful and delicate. Your link didn't work, but I listened to my own mp3 of her rendition of "Memory".
Boyle sounds like she walks on stage, belts out the tune, and walks off (which she does). Sarah Brightman sounds like she is the character.
edit: I assume we're all ignoring the horrid 1st couple of seconds of Boyle's rendition.

Well yeah, no one is gonna argue the fact that Susan is just an amateur, but an amateur with an amazing voice. What I did is just close my eyes, and listen to the music. Give her time though, and some professional coaching, we'll see.
Edit: Surely you weren't expecting this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s96NZoeDs68? I didn't. I didn't listen to her acting, yes she fluttered a bit, but Susan's voice is piercing.

Then you would be mistaken. If you followed the show last year you would have seen the ventriloquist Terry Factor who came in 2nd place was damn amazing. The guy could pretty much imitate anyone, talking or singing. Admittedly one of the few standouts on the show, but this guy now has a great nightclub act going, thx to the show.Originally posted by: Slick5150
All I've ever seen on the American version of the show is people belching songs and banging on pots and pans.
