So much better than Man vs Wild.
Looks like he's doing it all by himself compared to the dude from Man vs Wild.

We just had a thread on this a few days back. General consensus was that MvW was 10x better than Survivorman.

Yeah. I prefer him over the Man vs Wild guy. There was only one hiccup in his show though. That was being stranded at sea. He kept saying the pickup boat was out of communication with him as a storm was blowing in. Other than that the show is about 7 times better than Man vs Wild.

My favorite episode is the one where he goes up to the Arctic Circle, gets a snowmobile, drives off into the wilderness and has to make his way back. I never knew that chewing fat off of a seal could save your life.

I respect what he does but he just doesn't have the general badassery that Bear does. MvW has been getting flack lately for being faked in certain parts, but he will do stuff that Survivorman never would. Dude is hardcore.

Uh, I read that thread and I'd say you came to the opposite conclusion that I did. It was more like Suvivorman was 10x better than MvW.

I would agree. Survivorman has forgotten more about survival than Bear Grylls could ever know in 100 lifetimes.

I thought today was the start of the new season. The Dish Network schedule guide said (2007) so I thought it was new - but it's a repeat of the Georgia swamp episode ( the first ep. of the series? ).

Bear is a true man. Plus he has an awesome accent and he doesn't complain when he has to eat nasty stuff.

I injected my own oppinion into a fact hoping nobody would notice, is that so bad? :D

I agree with Quintox though, Bear's accent is crazy good. I started talking like him and I feel more like a man already.

Well, that depends on if he had his writers or not. :D I will give props to Bear for teaching my how to scale a tree with no limbs, though.

So, to settle this debate then.

Bear = Superman (in other words, a man no one except Chuck Norris could come close to on the coolness scale)

Les Stroud = the everyday man who gets put into these situations and has to figure it out for himself.

I'll take the Les Stroud archetype over Bear Grylls.

What are you kidding me? Don't get started with the "Chuck Norris versus" rubbish...

McGyver would take Bear or Les down with one swift paperclip.

Bear isn't a phony. He was in the Foreign Legion for a few years for crying out loud. Thats a very elite special forces group in case you don't know.

Suvivorman has half the entertainment value of MvW. Last time I checked I watched TV for entertainment, not authenticity.

Wow, I'd expect that a marine would recognize which of the two is truly more capable of surviving in the wild. Heck, I was watching a rerun of survivorman a couple hours ago. Stranded on a deserted island... I know! I'll use my signal flare to start a fire to cook some snails. At no point did he seem compelled to mention "okay, my crew towed me to this island after a few days. Since they're picking me up in 2 more days, I'll never need this thing to signal a passing ship for help."

He served in the British SAS, not the Foreign Legion. He just made a documentary about the FL.

Oh look...another thread turned into a Les vs Bear debate. Wow...go figure.

It's a matter of opinion. I watched MvW while waiting for new episodes of Survivorman...but I prefer Survivorman. New episodes start August 17th (or was it the 15th?). Yay.

Survivorman is more realistic than man vs wild. Bear in his show does some survival tactics that the average person would not do (or someone with common sense). He has a crew with him and thats why he does them. If he gets in dip sh1t he has someone to get him out. I do watch the show. But, I like Survivor man a lot more.

Both shows are pretty good, bolded reply: Him faking some parts is more educational IMO than all those other BS reality shows out there.

Bear only goes in for a few days, and has a team that follows him. Les goes in all by himself, with nothing more than a knife at times, and tries to survive for an entire week... while filming himself. Imagine having to fast for a week... now add in lack of real shelter, having to gather firewood, making a fire yourself out of twigs (in all of Survivor 14 season history, only one person ever created fire without flint/steel), finding water, etc, and it's monumental what he goes through.

Bear does some really idiotic things... and almost all of them unnecessary. For example, he once squeezed elephant dung for the water... well, if there's elephant dung that's fresh enough and damp enough to squeeze water from, i'm going to guess there's a water source nearby... and what do you know, a little bit later, and he does come across some water.

Or the part where he's in a canyon in ice cold water, but the water was so stagnant there were dead animals in it. And there was debris in the way. Instead of getting out and finding another way, he decides to swim under the debris to see if there's an exit. You can bet somebody had scouted that first, because that would have been suicidal to try if you're unsure if there really is an exit within a breath swim (not to mention the possibility of getting tangled or snagged while under water).
