Survivor Man

spaceman

Lifer
great show, im not one for "reality shows" if even this can be defined as such..but the guy is pretty rugged...and you also learn a thing or two.

I was going to ask the same thing last night.

Once he pulled out that 'survival saw', I said to myself, "I wonder if it's going to break the first time he uses it like mine did"

He must waste a lot of energy going back to retrieve the cameras for some shots.

Yeah, I catch it every now and again on the outdoor life network. That guy is hardcore! Did you see the one where he was in the artic and the inuit guy basically had to come rescue him or he would have died?

LOL i don't think he would have died... he had people shadowing him the entire time, because it was so dangerous... but he never saw them. It was funny how there were polar bear paw prints like 20 feet away from where he slept though... that would have freaked me out.

Eating that raw seals eyeball though... THAT was hardcore.

I found the show entertaining, but I don't think he's really that knowledgeable about survival (much more so than most people, but far from an expert). The show looks more like someone had a great idea, filmed a few episodes, and sold the Discovery Channel on the idea of showing them. When I watched one episode, I was thinking, "what a goofball." He was "starving" after just a few days. Worse was that he didn't seize upon the abundant bugs in that episode as nourishment. I'll bet if he would have turned over a few rocks, he could have found far more food.

When he points out that you can drink your urine once to help maintain hydration, then I'll think of him as hard core. Til then, he's just an amateur who sold a neat idea for a television show.

He seems knowledgeable enough to me. He knew he'd be done in 7 days, and that the human body can go a month or more without food, as long as you have water. I wouldn't have eaten bugs either. In fact I'd have to be on the verge of death to consider eating bugs, that's just really nasty 😛 I would, however, have no problem with being somewhat hungry and working to obtain more suitable meals.

i saw a couple in the marathon but there were different dudes. the first was out for like a week in utah and only ate a single squirrel and drank some nasty water. the second was in communication with people and was being monitored 24 hours a day. the first dude was crazy.

He and his wife lived for a year in the wilderness and that is where the idea for the series came from. He does eat bugs occasionally, and I get very tired of him saying every time he kills something to eat how he hates killing but it is ok as a last resort of survival.

Sometimes it's difficult to determine the difference between having balls and possessing great quantities of stupidity.

whateveer the case may be, the show rocks.

I like the show and he seems like a nice guy but he talks like he's dumb or at least slow. In the length of the show, he tells you maybe 3 interesting facts. His mannerisms and just slurred speech makes me wonder if he's partly retarded. I am not trying to make fun of him but it's sometimes painful to watch.

Lets see how you do after several days with no food.

Perhaps carrying all the gear, talking to the camera, and being in an extreme environment while trying to focus on 10 other things at once is more difficult than we imagine?
