A diet war, everytime I turn around somebody's waving a tray of cookies, pastry or candy at me.I think I'm going to wear a sign that says "please don't feed the geek" people are well meaning but how many times must one say "it looks yummy but no thank you"

oh yeah target, that's healthy. cookies, doritos, 3 ailes of assorted candy & some nesquik. the healthiest thing they sell is probably chocolate covered pretzels.

now that i think about it, it's almost lunchtime.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a little holiday indulgence, as long as you don't go overboard.

Sometimes I find it's easier to not indulge at all,it makes staying in control easier.Sugar does not do good things for my powers of concentration either.

Don't feed the geek....

That's just funny to think about in the dictionary sense of the word.

For those that don't know, a geek is a circus performer that performs weird acts like biting off the head of a live chicken. Funny stuff.

You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone

I thought this was going to be a gift thread where I ramble about the whole planning, plotting and shopping thing being spycraft and then could rant about gifts being a burden, especially those vile insulting gift certificate things that mean an instant end to a friendship to me, but alas it's about baked goods. I'll rant somewhere else.

I don't know with this whole diet thing. I couldn't live with a situation that makes my life the more restrictive than moderate and fun.

As I've said in the past, I understand strict dieting for purpose of losing a significant weight. But once it's dropped to a reasonable measure, I don't see why anyone should make sugar seem like a plague to be avoided. Sugar in moderation is good . . . not as evil as preached. Enjoy yourself and indulge in it sometimes, just as long as it is not frequent or excessive.

Funny I was addicted  to sugar at some point, yet I stayed in shape. I still eat sugar . . . not exactly like many Americans, but I don't stop myself from having a week's worth of sugar every once in a month or two. I used to be scared when people told me I would gain so much weight for eating candies, especially at the rate I did. Apparently not. For common sense health reasons and distance, I am no longer feeding on sugar as frequently as before. However, I'll never stop eating sugar just for fear of adding weight. Sometimes I wish American candies and desserts weren't as ridiculously sugary as they are, though. :( I think I prefer British candies and snacks. Oh yeah, and did I mention that cheesecake is my favourite dessert? Woohoo! LOL!

You don't understand because you are 6ft 1 and 130 pounds pretty much naturally.Others of us have to work to stay slim.I've decided that the benefits of having a slim, trim body outweighs the fleeting pleasure of eating junk foods. The calories I can consume need to be budgeted for foods high in protein, vitamins and minerals.I also have ADD,sugar isn't good for me.

All right! Whatever works for you, Geekbabe! I won't bug you again, since it seems you have rationally measured the pleasures you gain from doing either activity. You must be a utilitarian who discovered that her measure of pleasure (vs. pain) was higher with depriving herself of junk to guarantee her weight vs. eating junk, which would seem to work in moderation. ;) More power to you! You can explain to your friends that you would rather not have them offer you those junks. But you must at some point be disciplined to say "no" when they offer you in good faith 'cuz temptations are always there, especially amongst strangers who don't know your situation.

Good luck!

I don't feel the need to "explain" my eating habits in social situations, aside from being boring a simple "no thank you,I'm not hungry" works pretty well.

The average American gains 8 lbs between Thanksgiving and New Years.

That is ridiculous! PEOPLE!!! Let's say there are 33 days between Thanksgiving and New Years. At three meals a day, that means that we eat 99 times. If we over eat for only three of those meals, why are we gaining that much weight?

Yeah, I know. It's the constant barrage of holiday junk food at our work places.
