I'd read about Simo Hayha on Cracked.com. I definitely am going to read Rifles of the White Death now.

I'd recommend anyone that wants to play sniper at the end of days to invest in a Mosin Nagant and a few thousand rounds of ammo...probably set you back all of a few hundred bucks.

Then fire the fuck out of it. This is where many fail, they either go out into the woods and just shoot randomly or spend all their time posting about their new gun then looking to buy their next rather than using it.

I am willing to bet it will be some of the easiest ammo to still get if we hit post-apocalypse.

This is correct. You can get 7.62x39 annywhere (Walmart, Bass Pro, Cabelas, Dicks, and anywhere else that has guns/ammo).

I rarely see 7.62x54 anywhere other than Cabelas or online

Go with an SBR'd AR15 in 6.8 SPC. In my case I'm working on a longer barreled 6.5 Grendel build for a deer rifle which will be my go to rifle.

You meet some real guys on the range here in KY. Lever action, handed to them from their father, who passed it from their grandpa. They bag many an animal with it.

A quality weapon, with a quality round one is familiar from childhood with beats all.

Don't laugh. I live in KY. We have guys that come in with 15 rounds to make sure their rifle still shoots true. Lever action, handed down from generation to generation, they hit the target dead fucking bulls eye on at 150 yards and say "yep, still good".

...you might even be able to leave out the 250's and still qualify expert.

Unless the standard has changed, you can miss the 250 meter and 300 meter targets TWICE and still qualify expert with 36 out of 40.

I've never shot anything other than expert. I know I'm not going to miss anything but the 300s, so I never fire more than one shot at each 300m target and I'm guaranteed expert. That said, I've never scored lower than a 37.

Longest shots tend to take place in Afghanistan since the high altitude reduces air density. The longest shot was actually a double. A British sniper took out 2 guys at about 1.5 miles.

He also disabled their machine gun. I was in Afghanistan at the time, and a friend of mine lived on the same tiny little training camp as that British sniper. :thumbsup:
