Survival Kit: Slug or shot (bird or buck) shells? (12ga)

Which would you select?

Slug:
++ Tissue Damage (alien or zombie)
++ Range
+ Big game takedown
- No small game (Gibs!)
-- No spread (requires more time to be accurate)

Shot:
++ Spread (quick fire and less accuracy required)
++ Point blank self defense gibs
+ Small to medium game OK
- Range
-- Minimal damge/knockdown beyond 50? Yards

Standard 12 ga shotgun, no modifications, full length barrel.

Assume you will head away from large populated areas and will use the weapon for 70% hunting and 30% self defense.

Consider that self defense is life and death that very instant, while hunting may not be your only source of food.

You can buy slug shells for a regular shotgun. The slugs are rifled which makes it uncessary to have a rifled stock that slug guns have. Also shotties are nice because of buck shot.

Zombies seem to be able to continue to walk after taking minor damage so im guessing slugs would be better. Depending on how many zombies there are and how fast they move, once they're too close its pretty much over anwyays

I think disabling limbs would be easier with the shot, no?

why would you want to disable limbs?
Because it's hard to kill zombies?

You want to kill a zombie as quickly and as quietly as you can. The shotgun blast has already started to attract more zombies, and it you only disable the one you shot, his moans will also attract more zombies
