The above link is a survey of Canadians and their views on certain issues. It's a stunning difference compared to Americans, maybe you guys can confirm this, but very interesting indeed.

I'm surprised the federal election support numbers are so close for the Conservatives and Liberals - that's not the numbers I've seen previously at all. Harper's doing wonderfully.

Those Quebec referendum numbers are a complete shock as well - AFAIK, Quebec hasn't featured a distinct majority wanting sovereignty since '95.

I was referring to the issues...
Quebec was just another part of the survey.

Quebec can seperate if they want, but no partnership, if they don't want to be a part of Canada they don't get to reap the benefits of it either.

Oh they've been there for a long time. They just found a better work-around.

I don't think Quebec is going away. At least not in the eyes of government. Virtually all jobs in Ottawa required both English and French and all government jobs there require it.

Everywhere else in Ontario all managers in government require French. This is all recent in the past couple of years and despite independent reports that state it's virtually not used. Also due to the very low use of French the people trained in it loose the language skills. Only people who use it in daily life maintain their skill.

Seriously why the heck do you need to learn French? It's a language that hasn't been in wide use since France as an imperial power collapsed.

Better off learning Spanish. From a global perspective.

If they are going to force you to learn a 2nd language there should be an option besides French.

And yes I think Quebec should be allowed to leave Canada. If the population wants it then it's their right and the government must abide by it. Quebec will loose probably 40%, or whatever it is, of its territory anyway since the native population would loose all support from Canada. They would probably be sucked into Ontario.

So by all means let them go.

As far as Canada turning into the US... we are well on our way in many aspects. Especially civil rights, or lack thereof.

So by your logic Alaska should be able to leave the US! Sweet! We can hold the election next week and tap ANWR the day after. We'll punch through our LNG pipeline and start our own state run petroleum company. Back to free market crabbing! Damn the man!
