Physicians are generally the ones who have to diagnose mental illnesses in people. And, perhaps its a good idea to restrict somebody who suffers from bipolar disorder or paranoid schizophrenia access to guns.
Im not talkiing about rights so much as why it might be a physicians business to know about your firearms.
But why does the doctor need to know then? If you have something that makes you unstable, they can submit information saying Joe Schmoe is not allowed to own a gun, or must seek diagnosis from a specialist to be cleared. At that point, the police may get a warrant to remove the guns (and the person can challenge the addition to the list.)
I don't tell strangers I have guns. I just...don't. I would never answer on a poll that I own guns. Also, I remember in gun threads here over the years people quoted statistics on gun ownership - I warned those statistics were based on voluntary polls and thus inaccurate...
