surround sound system question

Okay, back in school and i'm trying to help my freind setup his Kenwood surround sound / HT sytem.

the problem is that, when surround mode is turned on--- the subwoofer doesnt work. When surround is turned off, the subwoofer works fine. I've checked every setting i can think of on the reciever, and nothing seems to change anything... but i'm sure i've missed something---

somebody here has to have experienced this before-- anything thouths?

You'll probably have to go into the receiver's set up menu and "enable" the sub. Many receivers have different settings available for 2 channel (stereo) sources versus 5.1 sources.

I have a Kenwood receiver and like Prong said there are different sub settings for 2-channel vs. 5.1. I would double-check that
